THE ESKER ESCAPADE

The esker escapade was a little bit different from most walks. Firstly, the turnout was low due to a combination of factors, such as people being away to enjoy the weekend for a change.

The second major difference was that it didn't take place where it was supposed to - this was because of the snow!

Thirdly, the photographs were taken by someone else who is much older than me, which explains why they look as if they were done in black and white.

Due to the snow the group had to stop short of Loch Duntelchaig and instead ended up at the Littlemill Esker, which turned out to be educational as well as fun! I can say that because I wasn't there.

The first photo shows the conditions and what can only be desribed as the elves in a winter wonderland.

And you thought you needed big planks on your feet to indulge in a bit of downhill skiing - not with the Dinosaurs, you don't!

Whilst walking into the jaws of something that looks as if it was a set on Lord of the Rings, someone decides to look at a big rock!

Talking of jaws - Dave agreed that everyone could have lunch before one o'clock! There was a collective wave of euphoria so great that the snow melted!

Someone lied when they said there would be no hills - however, the point about eskers is that they stand up above the surrounding landscape.

Finally, back to the cars - and horror of horros no photos of the pub, because they didn't go there! Could this be because I wasn't there? No the reason is that there are no pubs nearby - a flaw in the choice of walk, I think. I was doing some exciting stuff around the house while Sharon was away and then Robin and I went to see Caley thrash Hibs! HA! HA!

Well done to the Smiths for sorting all this out and I hope that everyone absorbed the geomorphilogical knowledge!
