THE JULY JOLLY

The July Jolly took us all to the seaside for a pleasant walk by the beach from Dornoch to Embo. We had fabulous weather - nice and hot.

The first stretch took us along the beach by the golf course at Dornoch. You may think this is the Med, but no, it is the north of Scotland - see the empty sands and the shimmering sea.

As always we had to stop for lunch - this time there were no midges - but there was some sand in the witches! Dave protested, but we went ahead and ate, even though it was only half past twelve. So far as I know there were no ill effects despite the insult to his digestion. Agnes and Sharon were not really smelly - the gap between them and Robin is where I had been sitting whilst I took the photo, honest. At this point in time Pam and Hugh texted to say that they were having a hard time with the walk from the pool to the bar in Portugal - I would have sent Carly for the drinks myself! No doubt Pam was colour co-ordinated, with the bikini matching the umbrella!

After a gruelling walk throught the desert sands and Grannie's Hielan' Hame we made it back to Dornoch for an ice cream. All except for Agnes, that is - as you can see she only had a water ice. There was a huge amount of debate about sliders and Nougats and things like that. Whatever it was called it sure hit the spot as the temperature was pretty high by then. Some of us were a bit like that as well - of course the ladies were only glowing!

After that a short walk through the town took us to the spot where the last witch in Scotland was burnt. Of course, that is not true. As you can see from the picture, there are at least 4 left.

Finally, you would expect us to end up at the pub - but not this time. We did have a drink, but in the luxurious surroundings of Chalrie and Sue's camper van. There was a slight hitch in that the beer had not been in the fridge, but that should be fixed for the next time, when Charlie has decided they won't take any food with them. Even Jimmy had a beer, but you could tell he doesn't drink much, because his shorts were wet when he got up. He claimed the ground was wet, but as it hadn't rained for weeks.............

So that was July - as you might expect August is next and some of us are looking forward to it already - on the other hand some of us are looking forward to the Caley Celtic game!
